The story

A Normandy village on the night of 7 June 1944, overrun by the dead. Hedgerow 44 is a playable survival game with a late-90s console look: every model is built from code and every texture is painted pixel by pixel in the browser, with no image files at all. It shows how far a single web page can go as a games platform.

The clever bit

An entire 3D village, characters and pixel textures generated in code, with no art files, rendered through a faithful PS1-style pipeline in the browser.

What it does
  • Playable in any browser, no download
  • Wave-based survival runs with a barracks hub, orders and loot
  • Throwables, melee takedowns and a Feldwebel boss fight
  • Switchable black-and-white 'Noir' and full colour grades
  • Late-90s console renderer with dither and pixel textures
  • Touch controls for phones
