The story

A memorial website for Charlie Rogers (1930-2020), the self-taught Gateshead painter who raced the demolition crews to record Tyneside's back lanes, pubs and corner shops before they came down. It tells his story, maps the places he painted and sells the new book about him, with fine art prints to follow.

The clever bit

A heritage-grade archive that pairs paintings with the real streets they show, many of which no longer exist, with historic map overlays

What it does

  • Catalogue of paintings browsable by theme
  • Map of the places he painted, many now demolished
  • Timeline, people and exhibitions sections
  • Online shop for the book with basket and checkout
  • Admin area for orders, products and enquiries
